Government Help?

I've been writing to various government agencies in the UK, looking for any sign of zombie awareness. No surprise, I'm getting zip back. Even my MP doesn't seem to answering me now. I think he is one step from getting a restraining order.

So, what do you do if the government has no emergency plans to deal with an undead outbreak.

Well, short of asking our US allies for a loan of 10,000 marines - we are all gonna have to go it alone.

One thing any American readers should note - people here in the UK don't really take storing food seriously. Everything is just a quick hop down to the supermarket.

We saw it during a recent petrol crisis - people were clearing the shops like it was the end of the world.

Got me thinking - when the Zeds arrive - you got what you got - if you are not stocked up & well-supplied - forget it.

I'm off the Tesco's now - I need to stock up on my dried goods & a 3 month supply of tea bags - this cat does not intend to get caught out.

Why no castles & stately homes?

I was speaking to a friend last night, she had been looking at the section about long-term settlement locations – the places you could really look at to start rebuilding things after the zombies do what they normally do.

She asked why I’d left castles out – surely they would be the best defensive locations & they are all over the country?

Well, this was not laziness on my part – I checked hundreds of long-term locations including stately homes & castles, I just had to sift it down.

After visiting many of our fine historical homes & castles, I quickly realised that most are not the dream defensive locations you would think. For example, rather than a solid wooden drawbridge, you are more likely now to find a gift shop & public cafĂ© – fine & dandy for day trippers but not so useful when battling the undead.

Stately homes were even worse – warrens of corridors, hundreds of rooms, dark corners. One visit to a stately home close by around dusk & I saw that this site would be a real nightmare when the lights go out – totally disorientating…

The final nail in the coffin for me was that I fear these fantastic locations will attract each & every surviving hard man or would be robber baron with the ambition to set themselves up as the new local lord. I can see groups of bandits & rapscallions moving in with their armed thugs, making these sites no go areas for other survivors.

After a 10 minute rant, my friend agreed. However, I also think I have managed to convince her that I am more than half way round the bend.

Well, I thought, that is one of the perils of campaigning on anti-zombie issues here in the UK & elsewhere I suspect.

What does official mean?

Someone asked me yesterday what the term 'official' meant?

It's not that I am a clever word smith or anything like that, they meant why the official zombie handbook?

Well, I tried every local council & government contact I could find, I spoke to my MP - basically in the UK, we have no official position on the undead. No government procedures outside the standard emergency preparedness plans & these are pretty much useless against the undead.

So, I see myself & the other activists here as the 'official' voice - someone has to do something.

I'm writing to the government, I want to become the Minister for Zombies....

Zombies in the UK

Good Morning,

An early misty morning here in London & my first post. Over the coming months, I hope to share my experience & insight from preparing the Official Zombie Handbook UK - which has taken me the best part of 3 years to research & write.

What do I hope to get out of a blog?

Well, course it's about PR but I also want to explore some of the real issues that keep all of us zombie nuts awake.

How would you survive a zombie outbreak?

What if like me you live a country where guns are pretty much banned? If you get the book great, if you just start making your own plans, just as good - I'd love to know about them - the more of us who survive the better.

For the moment, keep your eyes peeled.Sean
